Ivory Coast Wins 2023 African Cup Of Nations After Thrashing Nigeria In The Final

The Elephants of Ivory Coast has won the 2023 African Cup Of Nations, m after defeating the Super eagles of Nigeria 2:1 in the final game of the tournament, thereby clinching their third AFCON title.

The Elephants of Ivory Coast dominated most of the first half, but were fruitless in their attempts. And in the 38th minute, the Super eagles of Nigeria broke the deadlock after Nigeria’s captain, William Troost-Ekong found the back of the net from a towering header directly from a corner kick.

The second half began with the hosts keeping up the momentum. And after series of near chances, they were finally able to draw level in the 62 minute from a Franc Kessie well-placed header to beat the Nigerian goalkeeper.

The match continued with immense intensity and in the 81st minute, Sebastian Haller scored to give Ivory Coast the lead.

The match finished 2:1 in favour of Ivory Coast, meaning Nigeria has lost 5 AFCON finals in their history, and last winning the competition in 2013.
