For those with a penchant for tourism and anything pertaining to tourism inclined travels, it’s good news that the annual global World Tourism Day is almost upon us. A day set aside as an observance fostering awareness of tourism’s social, cultural, political and economic value and the contribution that the sector can make towards reaching the Sustainable Development Goals.
And as most of us are already in the know, the theme for this year’s WTD is “Tourism for Inclusive growth” and Cote d’Ivoire will be playing host this year. The African nation will be proudly flying the flag alongside other nations of the continent and the world at large.
The world tourism day celebration have always been a memorable one, save for Covid -19 disruption to that of last year. However, all of that is over now, and we all are raring to go on the 27th of September which is the official date for the celebration. Oyo State, which is one of the leading states in Nigeria will also be celebrating the annual event in a very big way as they’ve taken it a step further by naming the world famous Iyake Suspended lake in Ado Awaye as the host destination for the event.
In the meantime, here are a few things you should know about WTD 2021;
• The theme for the World Tourism Day 2021 is “Tourism for Inclusive Growth”.
• The official colour for the WTD is Blue
• Some of the activities to celebrate the WTD include Museum visiting, Forum and workshops, Cultural tours, Gastronomic samples, Gathering of tourism experts and lots more.
• This year’s official celebration will be staged in Cote d’Ivoire.
