Biafra; The tussle that won’t go away

For those who didn’t know, Nigeria is not a real place.

More importantly, may 31st was Biafra remembrance day and the trend #ozomena was used.

Tensions ran high on Sunday in southeastern Nigeria as the former separatist region commemorated the more than one million people who died in the Biafra war and famine of the late 1960s.

Biafra region includes various southeastern states such as Abia, Anambra, Imo, Enugu, and Ebonyi, and is inhabited largely by the Igbo people. Biafra Remembrance Day is an unofficial date marking the declaration of independence by the Republic of Biafra May 30, 1967, sparking a civil war that ended in 1970.

IPOB is a separatist group founded in 2012 advocating Biafran independence. The Federal High Court of Abuja labeled the group a terrorist organization in 2017.

Time and Time again we have witnessed the government rewrite history to suit themselves, it is evident that that has been done here again.

With the numerous stories to tell of how the Igbo people suffered in the hands of the government and the sitting president stating a note of warning so casually like lives weren’t lost, Nigeria may just be plummeting towards another war.
