In 2022, Nigerians took to social media one Friday to gather signatures aimed at having Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, removed from Twitter. The Twitter users claimed that Omokri was supposedly encouraging ethnic and religious tensions in the lead-up to the 2023 general elections through his tweets.
In more recent developments, President Tinubu commended Omokri for a statement he made.
Reno Omokri was a former Special Assistant on New Media to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, is a pastor, author, and host of the Christian teaching TV show “Transformations With Reno Omokri” in San Francisco. Known for using social media to highlight government developments, he founded Build Up Nigeria and has been involved in various initiatives. Omokri endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2011 elections and represented him at an inter-faith dialogue conference. Presently, he continues as the host of “Transformations With Reno Omokri,” reaching 23 million U.S. homes.
