The host nation of the 2023 African Cup of Nations, Ivory Coast have been humiliated and knocked out of the tournament after being thrashed 4:0 by Equatorial Guinea in the last fixture of the Group stage.
Equatorial Guinea scored the first goal in the 42nd minute after Emilio Nsue first-time shot found the back of the net.
The hosts managed to equalize in the 45+2 minute, but it was overturned by the VAR due to offside.
Relentless, the hosts managed to score again in the 67th minute, but to the dismay of the Ivory Coast players, it was disallowed again.
Equatorial Guinea extended their lead in the 73rd minute, and made it 3:0 in the 76th minute, devastating the Ivory Coast players.
The visitors didn’t stop with the momentum, and were able to put the fourth goal past the Ivory Coast goalkeeper in the 88th minute, thereby dashing the hopes of Ivory Coast for a miracle.
The match ended Equatorial Guinea 4:0 Ivory Coast.
The humiliating defeat means, Ivory Coast are eliminated from the tournament, after finishing third in their Group A with 3 points, below Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria who qualifies with 7 points each.
