Talking transfers: Winners and losers in the January transfer window

The transfer window slammed shut only two nights ago, but it’s evident that football fans across the world won’t let things slide without having their fill as to who won and lost in the market.

As a result, we’ve decided to take a quick look at some of the new faces in the EPL and possibly highlight where some teams won and lost in their shopping spree.

Winners

Chelsea

Chelsea arguably has to top this list considering the massive influx of players during the window. The arrivals of Joao Felix, Mudryk, Noni Madueke, and most recently Enzo Fernandez should really put the blues in a good light to finish well this season.

On the flip side, a massive array of top talents and a large dressing room could pose a headache for Potter. But for now, things look good, and all things equal, the Stamford Bridge outfit should be flying from here on.

Spurs

Tottenham might just have struck gold, at least so it looks with the capture of long term target Pedro Porro. The right wing back signed from Sporting Lisbon on deadline day and spurs gaffer, Conte hasn’t hidden his affairs for the player.

The idea is that he would easily make the team click and blend into Conte’s style of play. In addition to Porro, the North Londoners also added Arnaut Danjuma to the side with Bryan Gil moving elsewhere.

Manchester United

Another side that might just have done enough is Manchester United. Although they only added a couple of players to an already stable squad. Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer should really help shake things up in the run in. Especially with Christian Eriksen already out injured, the addition of Sabitzer couldn’t have come at a better time.

Losers

Manchester City

One of the major losers who should take a stick is Manchester City. After letting Gabriel Jesus and Zinchenko leave for Arsenal in the summer, one would have expected the Cityzens to keep their exit door firmly shut, but the loan move of Cancelo to Bayern Munich would probably have left a bitter taste in the mouths of their fans. If anything at all, Pep and co just weakened the side, and it’s difficult to see how it won’t haunt them.

Liverpool

Away from Etihad to Anfield where the reds call home. One would have thought that Liverpool do right by themselves by signing at least a midfield player to aid their depleted middle line, but it appeared as though they weren’t keen. Leaving Cody Gakpo as their sole signing in the window. Not to sound too jumpy, but I think that’s not good enough considering how much grounds they still need to cover to get to the top four.

Other sore losers include Everton, who only succeeded in firing one and signing a new manager while also letting one of their most prized asset, Anthony Gordon join Newcastle. Lampard might have miraculously avoided the drop last season, I don’t see Dyche repeating such feat this time.
