World Cup 2022: Shocks and surprises abound in Qatar

The first round of matches at the Qatar 2022 World cup has swiftly flown by and it’s spot on to say that we’ve had enough shocking results to last us the entirety of the tourney, albeit that’s not to say we won’t welcome even more if the competition promises us some more.

Anyways, we felt you just might want to talk about some of the highs and lows of the first round of matches, so we thought it wise to bring this article to you just so you can easily camp underneath while we dissect some of the juicy bits of all the matches in bite-sized chunks.

We go first!. Argentina vs Saudi Arabia, a match up that came upon us without too much fanfare. At least on paper, nothing to fancy. If anything at all, loads of us thought the boys from Buenos Aires would sweep the Arabians aside without looking back, but perhaps that’s why it’s the World Cup. We went on to behold the shock of our lives as the Arabians roared back from a goal down to turn the game on its head_ winning by 2 goals to 1 in the end, thereby punctuating an unbeaten run for Messi and co.

In all honesty, no one saw that coming, and rightly so. I mean, no disrespect to the Arabian side, but who would have thought that a team that boasts the likes of Lautaro Martinez, Angel Di Maria, Rodrigo De Paul and the extraterrestrial Lionel Messi would be battered by a team we barely know what their team sheet looks like.
