WAFCON 2022: Host, Morocco upset Falcons to secure final spot

Barely days after securing their spot in the Women’s World Cup Mundial billed to hold in Australia and New Zealand next year, the Super Falcons of Nigeria took things up with WAFCON 2022 hosts Morocco in the late hours of last night. Albeit the match didn’t quite play to script as the falcons who were slight favorites going into the game stumbled at the penultimate stage.

The match which was tightly contested saw the Falcons see out the match with 9 women after the referee brandished a couple of red cards, yet the defending champions held their heads high, and proved that they weren’t the trophy holders for nothing.

The ladies in Green and white might have lost this one, but their grit, gut, and prowess were never called to question. And if quizzed any further, the Atlas Lionesses would be doffing their hats for the Nigerian girls.

Next up for the Falcons is a third place fitting against Zambia who lost in the other semi final match to the Bayana Bayana of South Africa_before taking on the USA in a prep match later in September.
