Osun Decides: Is Naija Politics gradually taking a new turn?

In more ways than one, the triumphant victory of Ademola Adeleke, the uncle of singer Davido, proved to Nigerians that there is yet hope for this country.

On July 16, 2022, a gubernatorial election was held in Osun State to choose a new leader. The incumbent governor of the Peoples Democratic Party (APC), Ademola Adeleke, defeated incumbent All Progressives Congress governor Gboyega Oyetola by a margin of 3.5 percent in the general election.

Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who narrowly lost his quest to lead Osun State nearly four years ago, finally overcame the most significant challenge remaining in the way of his ambition.

Adeleke received over 400,000 votes and 50% of the second-place position votes. Oyetola received over 375,000 votes or more than 46% of the total vote.

It became evident that the election, which was generally seen as calm, was between the two men as the results from the local governments poured in.
