Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Tems has made history as the first African woman to acquire a stake in a Major League Soccer (MLS) team, San Diego FC. The Grammy-winning artist secured her ownership through her company, The Leading Vibe.
Tems joins an esteemed group of investors, including World Cup champion Juan Mata and entertainment mogul Issa Rae. Expressing her excitement, she highlighted the club’s commitment to creativity, culture, and community.
Her investment is in partnership with Pave Investments, an African private equity firm that previously backed NBA Africa in 2021. Pave’s chairman, Tunde Folawiyo, and founding director, Kwamena Afful, are also part of the ownership group.
With this move, Tems extends her influence beyond music, further cementing her role as a global powerhouse.
