Judge Delays Trump Sentencing in Hush Money Case

A judge in New York has delayed Donald Trump’s sentencing in a criminal case involving hush money payments. The sentencing was originally set for November 26, 2024, but it has now been put on hold indefinitely.

Trump’s legal team requested the delay, arguing that a Supreme Court ruling from July gives presidents broad protection for actions taken while in office. Judge Juan Merchan agreed to postpone the sentencing.

Trump, who is set to return to the White House after winning the 2024 election, called the decision a major victory. His team referred to the case as a “witch hunt” and said the delay shows the charges are baseless.

In May, Trump was found guilty of 34 felony charges for allegedly falsifying business records to hide a payment made to cover up an alleged affair before the 2016 election. Prosecutors said this was done to help his campaign.
