UEFA Release Group Stage Draw For New UCL Format

The UEFA Champions League draw for the 2024/25 season took place on Thursday, revealing the matches for Europe’s top football teams.

The final will be held at Munich’s famous Fußball Arena München on Saturday, May 31, 2025.

Champions League legends like Gianluigi Buffon and Zlatan Ibrahimović helped kick off the new season for Europe’s biggest club competition.

Here is a breakdown of the New Champions League Format:

In this new format, 36 teams will compete instead of the usual 32. They’ll all be in one league, divided into four groups (or pots) of 8 teams each. The top two teams in each group will automatically qualify for the next stage.

Each team will play 8 different opponents 4 at home and 4 awaywithout facing the same team twice. The bottom 8 teams will be knocked out, and teams ranked 9th to 24th will play a playoff round.

The playoff will decide the remaining 8 spots in the knockout round. The 16 teams in the knockout stage will then compete, with 8 moving on to the quarterfinals, and from there to the semifinals and final.
