Controversies As Nigeria Reverts To Old National Anthem

Nigeria has found itself in the middle of controversies following President Bola Tinubu’s decision to sign into law a bill reverting to the country’s old national anthem. The anthem, which begins “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” was originally written by Lillian Jean Williams in 1959 and composed by Frances Berda. Its reintroduction was signed by President Tinubu as a celebration of Nigeria’s diversity, marking his first anniversary in office.

However, as a result of pressing economic challenges including insecurity, rising inflation, and a foreign exchange crisis, many Nigerians have expressed outrage over what they perceive as misplaced priorities.
