Toyin Abraham’s Malaika, Hit or Miss?

There are a lot of things to be said about Toyin Abraham as a person before we speak on ‘Malaika’, and at the top of that list is her presence during the last election and the weight the culture has on her being and career as an actor.

There is this popular saying of separating the art from the artist that Stans likes to throw around, so we give celebrities they worship a chance to be awful people and still not feel bad for putting coins in their pockets. This same phrase is perhaps what continues to carry Toyin, despite the hatred brewing in the hearts of many young Nigerians for her obtuse stand and take on the elections of 2023.

This general disregard for Toyin has touched her movies. Despite this, her newest production, Malaika, takes the story of a barren woman with anger issues who discovers herself through religion. Despite having the lore of an average Nollywood film, the cinematography, scriptwriting, and casting give it a solid 8.

It has some misses in the film but that doesn’t stop it from being a Hit
