Ghana Loses First Game of AFCON 2024 Against Cape Verde

The black stars of Ghana, and four-time winner of the tournament, has started their AFCON 2024 campaign on a very poor note, after losing out 2:1 to Cape Verde in their Group B encounter.

Cape Verde scored the first goal in the 36th minute as, Majeed Ashimeru after receiving a pass, made some space for himself and unleashed a long-range thunderbolt of a shot past the goalkeeper into the bottom left corner.

In the 56th minute, Ghana equalized as Alexander Djiku jumped highest inside the box to meet a perfectly executed corner kick by Jordan Ayew. His header was precise and ended up inside the left post, leaving the goalkeeper flapping in the wind.

The match continued with both sides trying to break each other’s defense, but Cape Verde was finally able to secure the win in the extra minute of added time [90+2] as Benchimol sprayed a pass out to Garry Rodrigues, who had an easy job of slotting the ball into an empty net.

Ghana now seats bottom of Group B, below Egypt, Mozambique and Cape Verde.
