Mohamed Salah’s Late Goal Secures a point for Egypt In their Four-goal Thriller Against Mozambique

All time winners of the African Cup of Nations, Egypt has barely managed to secure a point in their opening fixture of AFCON 2024 after playing a 2:2 draw with Mozambique. 

The Egyptians started the match on a very high note and managed to take the lead on the 2nd minute after Mostafa Mohamed pounced on a loose ball inside the penalty area, beating the goalkeeper with a shot into the bottom right corner.

 

Egypt dominated most of the match in terms of possessions but were caught off guard in the 55th minute as, Domingos Macandza showcased a brilliant technique and produced a beautiful lofted cross into the box, before being headed low inside the net by Mozambique forward, Witi.

 

The Egyptians sought hard for an equalizer but unfortunately for them, they experienced the shock of their lives after Mozambique player, Guima tees up his teammate, Clesio Bauque inside the box, rolling the ball into the bottom right corner and past Mohamed El Shenawy. [Egypt’s Goalkeeper].

 

Being behind, Egypt had no choice but to go all out attack throughout the rest of the game. As soon as all hope was almost off, their hard work paid off as they were awarded a penalty in the dying minutes of the match, 90+5.

Mohamed Salah was called up to duty and made no mistake on sending the ball to the back of the net from the penalty spot.

The match ended on that note, Egypt 2:2 Mozambique.
