World Cup: Bono-inspired Morocco advance at the expense of La Roja

A vintage performance saw the Selecao stroll into the last eight while the Atlas Lions of Morocco defied several odds to topple Spain via penalties to remain the only African side left in this year’s World Cup.

A lot has happened since the Qatar 2022 started a little over two weeks ago, and if many of us have had the slightest inclination that the host won’t go far, or perhaps that most African countries might get dumped out before the tournament climaxed_ what we didn’t see coming was that Morocco, one of Africa’s contingent in this year’s edition of the football event would go this far.

Yesterday, the North African side dumped European side, Spain out of the FIFA World cup in almost astonishing fashion, with goalkeeper Bono playing hero to deny the Spanish side on several occasions as the boys from Rabat progressed without hiccups_banishing every doubts in our minds.

While that win might already look like a feat, It’s probably safe to think that the Moroccans aren’t done just yet. They next face off against Portugal who had a field day in their own duel, taking the gear totally away from Switzerland and bossing the ride with ease.

It’s still early days, but we have all the reasons in the world to believe that the African side might just pull through into the Semis, and should that happen, the gist will go on to be on our lips for a very long time to come.
