What is Ramadan?

Ramadam is more than the meet and chin chin your Muslim neighbors and coworkers give to you,

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and it commemorates the month-long fast during which God is said to have revealed the Quran to Prophet Muhammad. In Arabic, its name literally means “scorching heat.”

As a way of celebrating and reflecting on their faith, Muslims are required to abstain from food and drink, including water, for 30 days during daylight hours.

Fasting during Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam, which also include the Shahadah (declaration of faith), Salat (prayer), Zakat (charity), and the Hajj pilgrimage.

During Ramadan, Muslims offer more Salat, giving thanks to Allah, while the fasting ritual allows them to understand the suffering of others

Ramadam kareem vs ramadam mubarak

During the holy month, the most common greeting is “Ramadan Mubarak,” which translates from the Arabic word for “blessed.”

This phrase thus means “Blessed Ramadan,” and it is frequently used in the same way that “Happy Ramadan” is.

“Ramadan Kareem” is a less common phrase that translates to “Generous Ramadan.”

While the phrase can be used to greet Ramadan in the same way that “Ramadan Mubarak” can, it can also be used to describe Ramadan in a different context.
