Tragedy Strikes at Children’s Funfair in Ibadan, Lives Lost

A stampede at a children’s funfair in Ibadan, Oyo State, has left many children dead and others injured. The event, organized by Women in Need of Governance and Support (WINGS), an initiative of Queen Naomi Silekunola, was held at Islamic High School, Bashorun.

People started arriving at the venue as early as 6 a.m., and some even stayed overnight. The stampede happened when a large crowd, including many children, tried to rush through the school gate. Many children fell and were trampled in the chaos.

Clothes and shoes of victims were seen scattered at the scene, while security officers worked to clear the area.

The Oyo State government has expressed sadness over the incident. In a statement, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, said the state quickly sent a response team, and injured victims were taken to nearby hospitals.

The government also clarified that it was not involved in organizing the event and stressed the importance of proper planning for events, especially those involving children.
