Taliban Enforce New Strict Rules on Women’s Behavior in Afghanistan

Afghanistan’s Taliban government has introduced new rules that heavily restrict women’s behavior in public. These rules are part of a set of laws that are aimed at promoting strict Islamic values.

Approved by the Taliban’s top leader, Hibatullah Akhundzada, the laws cover various aspects of their daily life, such as how people should dress, use public transport, and celebrate events.

One of the laws, Article 13, focuses on women. It requires women to fully cover their bodies in public, including wearing a face covering to prevent any “temptation.” Their clothing must not be tight, thin, or short.

Women are also required to cover themselves in front of non-Muslim men and women to avoid “corruption.” The Taliban view a woman’s voice as private, so women are not allowed to sing, recite, or read aloud in public. Additionally, women are forbidden from looking at men who are not related to them, and men are not allowed to look at unrelated women.
