Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun Sworn in as Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria by President Tinubu

Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun has been sworn in as the 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The ceremony took place at the State House in Abuja, where Kekere-Ekun took her oath of office around 11:38 am. She will serve in an acting capacity until her confirmation by the Senate.

Justice Kekere-Ekun, who is now the second woman to hold this position, was nominated by the National Judicial Council (NJC) on August 15, after the retirement of the former Chief Justice, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.

After the swearing-in, Justice Kekere-Ekun took her seat in the Council Chambers next to the President. She follows in the footsteps of Justice Aloma Mariam Mukhtar, who served as Nigeria’s first female Chief Justice from July 2012 to November 2014.
