Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu Denounces ‘Igbo Must Go’ Campaign on Social Media

The executive governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has condemned a social media post that called for Igbo people to leave Lagos and the Southwest region of Nigeria.

The campaign was shared by a social media account named ‘LagosPedia’ on X (formerly known as Twitter), which threatened to start an ‘#IgboMustGo’ protest from August 20th to 30th, 2024.

The account, which had about 42,000 followers, disappeared from the platform on Thursday. Governor Sanwo-Olu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, has since then announced that neither the Governor nor the Lagos State Government supports such messages.

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that Lagos is a home for all Nigerians, regardless of their ethnicity. He then urged residents of Lagos to ignore such posts and not to allow anyone to create any discord in the state.

He also called on security agencies to investigate the individuals behind the social media account and bring them to justice. The Governor assured Lagosians of his commitment to maintaining peace in the state.
