Nigerian Sprinter Favour Ofili Excluded from Olympic 100m Race Due to Administrative Errors

Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili have expressed her disappointment on Tuesday after discovering that she will not be competing in the 100-metre race at the ongoing Olympics in Paris. The exclusion comes as a result of administrative failures by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC).

Ofili, who is an alumni of the Louisiana State University (LSU) Track and Field program, voiced out her frustration and called for accountability from those responsible. She also expressed doubts about the reliability of both organizations.

In her social media post, she wrote, “It is with great regret that I have just been told I will not be competing in the 100 metres at this Olympic Games. I qualified, but those with the AFN and NOC failed to enter me. I have worked for four years to earn this opportunity. For what?”

Despite meeting the qualifications for the event, Ofili revealed that officials did not enter her, echoing a similar situation from the previous Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She further shared that during the last Olympics, 14 qualified Nigerian athletes were unable to compete because the AFN, NADC, and NOC failed to release the necessary funds for testing.

Ofili remains hopeful that she will still have the chance to compete in the 200-metre event at the games.
