FG Bans Admission of Under-18 Students into Tertiary Institutions

The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, announced a ban on the admission of candidates under the age of 18 into tertiary institutions in the country. This new directive was revealed during the 2024 policy meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Thursday.

According to Prof. Mamman, he saif “JAMB is hereby notified that there is now a ban on underaged students, those under the age of 18, into our tertiary institutions from this 2024 admissions cycle.”

This move aims to ensure that students entering higher education institutions are adequately prepared and mature enough to handle the academic and social demands of tertiary education. The decision is expected to have wide-ranging implications for prospective students, parents, and educational institutions as they adjust to the new age requirement.
