I just watched “Saving Onome” on Prime Video, and I have to say, it was quite an emotional ride. The movie is about a young couple, Jite and Tola, who are desperately trying to save their sick daughter, Onome. The lengths they go to show just how far parents will go for their kids.
The film starts with Jite planning to rob a bank to get the money for Onome’s surgery. It’s a dangerous and desperate move, and you can feel the tension. Tola, his wife, is equally desperate, even willing to face humiliation from Jite’s boss to get the money and even went to the extreme of kidnapping and robbing all to save her chiLd. The story takes you through their struggles and the extreme measures they take.
Nancy Isime, who plays Tola, really nails her role. You can feel her pain and determination. Olumide Oworu, as Jite, is also great, although sometimes he seems more caught up in his own troubles than his daughter’s illness. Lawal Bolaji, playing Tega, brings some much-needed comic relief with his funny lines and sarcasm.
However, the movie does have its issues. At times, it seems to lose focus on the main plot of saving Onome and gets sidetracked with the couple’s relationship and the robbery. There are also some plot holes that make it hard to stay fully engaged. For instance, the way they planned the kidnapping and robbery is just too quick and unprofessional to be believable. Also, the couple’s seemingly relaxed demeanor during their daughter’s critical illness detracts from the believability of their desperation.
But despite these flaws, the movie is still worth watching. The cinematography and editing are well done, and the performances are strong enough to keep you hooked. The film does a good job of showing the raw emotions and sacrifices parents make for their kids.
In the end, “Saving Onome” is a heartfelt movie with a powerful message about parental love and sacrifice. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely worth a watch if you’re in the mood for an emotional drama. I’d give it a 6 out of 10.
