The Super Eagles of Nigeria have lost to Benin Republic in their 2026 [Group C] World Cup qualification game, at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
The 2-1 defeat means Nigeria remains in fifth place in their group C, which has further dimed their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Their previous match also ended in a 1:1 draw with South Africa at home.
The match started in favour of the Super Eagles who were able to take the lead in the 27th minute of the game.
Benin republic equalised in the 37th minute after a defensive error from Nathaniel Bassey, which sent Jodel Dossou clear on goal and putting the ball past the Nigerian goalkeeper.
Benin Republic took the lead few minutes after their first goal making the scoreline 2:1.
After this result, the Super Eagles are fifth in their Group C qualification group after earning three points in four games. They are just above only Zimbabwe, who still has a game at hand.
