Countries With The Strongest Military Forces In Africa 

In the continent of Africa, which has just recently broke away from the shackles of colonialism and exploitation by the European powers, security and stability is of the utmost importance in the region.

And in maintaining peace, security and stability, the presence of a standing army is needed. From protecting territorial borders to maintaining peace within the territories, the military plays an important role in protecting the interests of nations.

Here, we would be delving into the countries with the strongest military powers in the African continent. And it is pertinent to understand that when it comes to measuring the strength of a military, there are several factors to consider, which include budget, equipment, training and manpower.

 

1. EGYPT

Egypt is considered to possess the strongest military force in the whole of the African continent. In 2024, Egypt’s defense budget is worth $5.2 billion. The country has a large standing army of over 450,000 active troops and an additional 800,000 reserve troops.

 

2. ALGERIA

Algeria, also located in the Northern part of the continent, has the second strongest military force in Africa. with a defence budget of over $21.6 billion. The country has over 130,000 active troops and an additional 150,000 reserve troops.

 

3. SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa has the third-strongest military in Africa, with a defence budget of over $3 billion. The country has over 78,000 active troops and an additional 17,000 reserve troops.

 

4. NIGERIA

Nigeria has the fourth-strongest military in Africa, with a defence budget of over $4 billion. The country has over 120,000 active troops and an additional 80,000 reserve troops. Nigeria has access to modern military equipment, including fighter jets, tanks, and artillery.

 

5. ) ETHIOPIA

Ethiopia has the fifth-strongest military in Africa, with a defence budget of over $1 billion. The country has over 180,000 active troops and an additional 150,000 reserve troops.
