Victor Osumhen has been crowned the 2023 Best Male Player of the Year at the 2023 CAF Award night. This is a feat that had only been achieved by Nwankwo Kanu 24 years earlier.

Osimhen is the first African to win the Golden Boot in the Serie A for most goals scored. He was the first African to win the Best Overall Striker award. Most goals scored by an African player in a single Serie A season. The highest African goalscorer of all time in the Serie A.
Osimhen was one of the Nigeria under-17 team members that won the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile. He scored 10 goals in seven games at the tournament and won the Golden Boot and Silver Ball awards.
He underwent facial surgery after colliding with Inter Milan defender Skriniar in a Serie A clash in October 2021. Since recovering from the injury, Osimhen has been wearing a facemask for protection. The facemask has now become a trademark.
