Nigerian Filmmaker Mo Abudu’s Short Films Eye Oscars

Nigerian filmmaker Mo Abudu’s psychological short films, “Iyawo Mi” and “Her Perfect Life,” are now eligible for Oscar consideration.

Following their October 2023 premiere, the films are now in the running for the Live Action Short Film category at the 2024 Oscars. The films are her first directorial projects. Abudu’s directorial debut addresses mental health issues affecting two women and their families.

In “Iyawo Mi,” a young married man’s wife begins hallucinating and threatening to kill everyone. “Her Perfect Life” follows a woman with a seemingly perfect life who wants to end it all.

Mo Abudu’s films are the second Nigerian films to be eligible for Oscar consideration in 2024, after “Mami Wata” was selected as Nigeria’s entry for the International Feature Film category.
