Matchweek 31: The EPL race at the top and bottom

Chelsea’s woes continued on the road days ago when they lost their first leg UEFA Champions league tie to Spanish giants, Real Madrid. If recent showings have been wayward, the loss at the spanish capital saw them plunge further into a state of anarchy, and it’s already becoming a trend for the London side.

With a league season already gone sour, blues faithful would have imagined leveraging on their UCL status as a short cut back to the premier competition next season, but every hope seem to have evaporated after that first leg defeat.

League football resumes this weekend, and the Stamford bridge outfit will once again take to the turf in a bid to salvage what is left of a plastic season when they match up against a high flying Brighton side.

Elsewhere, In form Aston Villa host an equally imperious Newcastle side, Manchester City take on a distressed Leicester City, and they’ll hope to heap more misery on the foxes in a bid to keep up the pressure at the summit.

Top of the table Gunners who uncharacteristically dropped valuable points against Liverpool the last time play Westham_ a match that might relatively pose a statement one in their bid for the EPL trophy. Any more slip ups, and they might well kiss the silverware goodbye.

Well, it’s a weekend just like any other one, but results after this match week 31 will most likely define how the remainder of the league season would be, and perhaps who will be crowned champions and just maybe who ends up in the relegation waters for good.
