Movie Review: The Trade

The movie opens up in such unsuspecting fashion, at least from the villain’s point of view, and what our eyes beheld from that part till the end is nothing short of intriguing.

The Trade, a Nollywood movie written and directed by the ever impressive Jade Osiberu features Blossom Chukwujekwu in a rather unfamiliar yet mind blowing character. He plays the lead role in the movie, one that comes with grit, intensity, action, demeanor and of course a weird sense of language that distinctly portrays the fine actor in a different light altogether.

The story, which according to the writer is a true life tale is that of a notorious kidnapper whose antics and decoys knows no bounds. Well, I won’t spill but what I’ll do is to take a slice into some of the core aspects of the movie itself.

The Trade is what I’ll call a very well written story with a sweet plot, fine cinematography, great technique, and good actors that bodied their characters to perfection. Blossom Chukwujekwu, Ali Nuhu, Shawn Faqua, Stan Nze, Chiwetalu Agu, Nengi Atoki and the ever stunning Rita Dominic amongst others all killed their roles, and perhaps buried it.

A whole lot tickled me in the movie, from the costume, to the line deliveries, sprinkle of comic relief, suspense, and all, but what stood out for me definitely has to be the unforced actions. The actors seem to seamlessly slot into their roles as though it was a real life thing for them.

For a 2 hours, 8 minutes or thereabout movie which encapsulates some of the menace in the country, I’d say it’s a very good production. One that everyone would resonate with without having to wait till forever because the script easily jumps at you from the onset.

From my end, I’ll rate The Trade a 8/10. No! Scratch that. I’d give it a 9/10.
