The governorship and state houses of assembly elections were postponed by one week, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The elections, which were previously scheduled for Saturday 11 March, will now take place on Saturday 18 March, according to a statement issued by the commission’s spokesperson, Festus Okoye.

Concerns have grown as the governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections approach, with governors allegedly attempting to rig the elections by any means possible, including resorting to extra-judicial means to undermine the process.

Aside from allegedly recruiting thugs to help them disrupt the process in order to gain more votes, news outlets say one of the governors’ plans to rig the election is to collaborate with the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in their respective states.

Despite INEC’s assurances about its preparations for Saturday’s elections, what happened during the February 25 polls has caused the majority of Nigerians to lose faith in the electoral body. As a result, many Nigerians are wondering how prepared INEC is for Saturday’s elections.
