FA Community Shield: More than just a curtain raiser

It’s been a rather lengthy summer break without proper football action, but with the Community shield staring us in the eye from close quarters, it appears we just might have a new reason to smile again.

The customary curtain raiser will afford Liverpool and City the chance to renew their rivalry and have a go at each other once again, if for nothing at all, for bragging rights, and of course the shield that comes with it. As of now, the indices aren’t quite far fetched, but what is will undoubtedly be how the strikers of both teams will fare on the day.

With the Reds managing to add Nunez to their ranks after letting go of Sadio Mané, and Manchester City getting Norway sensation Erling Haaland, this clash promises to be mouthwatering, and portends to be more than just a fight for a shield. However, we’ve put together a few things that we feel could possibly happen on Saturday;

• Both strikers will fancy their chances of scoring, and it won’t come as a surprise if they both get on the score sheet.

• City haven’t had a smooth run in preseason, likewise Liverpool who come on the back of a loss. That said, it won’t be out of place to predict a boring game, but No! We predict a very tough afternoon at the King Power.

• Well, yes! You read that right. This year’s Community Shield clash will be played at home of holders, Leicester City due to the ongoing Women Euros finals billed to take place at Wembley a day after the Community shield match.
