AFCON: The Continent’s big boys in groups

African cup of Nations draw was held yesterday in Yaounde, the capital city of Cameroon where the tournament will be hosted. And for the second time running, the competition is set to feature 24 teams from the continent with six groups of four.

The draw could be termed a fair one considering that the top wigs have been slightly pitched against each other in at least three of the groups. If anything at all, that looks tasty on the outside and we all are eager to see how is plays out when the event finally kick starts in January 2022.

In truth, the Nations cup might have lost his fan rave and usual touch of class and pleasure, however next year’s edition might well play out differently considering the fact that several players from the continent now ply their trades overseas, making for stiff competition and a scenic sight for fans.

In the meantime, Holders Algeria have been grouped alongside two-time winners Ivory Coast while record seven-time winners Pharaohs of Egypt will oversee a group that contains Sudan, Guinea-Bissau and the super eagles of Nigeria.

Debutants Gambia will hope to cause an upset in a group F that has Tunisia, Mali and Mauritania.
