Police Neutralize Suspected Gunman in Anambra, Recover Weapons

In a late-night operation, police in Anambra State successfully neutralized a suspected gunman following a shootout in the Igbo Ukwu/Ezinifite Uga area. The Anambra State Police Command reported that officers encountered the armed group around 11:30 pm on Sunday while patrolling Aguata Local Government Area.

According to the police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, the armed men, driving a black Prado Jeep, engaged in a gun battle with law enforcement officers. One suspect was killed during the exchange, while the others fled.

The police recovered several items from the scene, including two AK-47 rifles, a pump-action shotgun, police body armor, and a variety of criminal charms. The police also seized the suspect’s vehicle, which had two different license plates.

Ikenga emphasized that clearance operations are ongoing to ensure the area remains secure, with further details expected in the coming days.

This latest development comes just weeks after a similar attack in the state where gunmen targeted the Oba Police Divisional headquarters, killing one officer and injuring others. The authorities have intensified their efforts to crack down on such criminal activities in the region.
