INEC Declares APC’s Okpebholo Winner of Edo Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced Senator Monday Okpebholo, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the Edo State governorship election.

Okpebholo had 291,667 votes, beating Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who got 247,274 votes and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party coming in third with 22,763 votes.

The announcement was made by INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, who is also the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Minna. He announced Okpebholo as the winner, as he secured the highest number of votes and met all legal requirements.

The election, which was held on Saturday, was mostly peaceful, with a good turnout in many areas across the State. Okpebholo won in 11 out of the state’s 18 local government areas, while the PDP won in seven.
