Nigeria’s hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup suffered a setback as the Super Eagles drew 1-1 with Zimbabwe.
Victor Osimhen gave Nigeria the lead in the 73rd minute, heading in a cross from Ola Aina. However, Zimbabwe equalised late through Tawanda Chirewa after a defensive mistake.
Nigeria started well, with Osimhen and Bright Osayi-Samuel forcing saves. Despite creating chances, the Super Eagles struggled to score. Zimbabwe also threatened on the counter but couldn’t find the net in the first half.
Coach Eric Chelle made changes in the second half, and Nigeria kept pushing forward. Osimhen finally broke the deadlock, but Chirewa’s goal denied them victory.
Despite late pressure, Nigeria couldn’t find a winner. The result makes World Cup qualification tougher, and the team must improve in upcoming matches.
