Many Nigerians are happy as their country is not included in U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed travel ban, which could affect 43 countries. The ban divides nations into three categories: red, orange, and yellow, with varying restrictions.
The red list includes 11 countries, such as Afghanistan, Iran, and North Korea, whose citizens are completely barred from entering the U.S. The orange list has 10 countries, including Russia and Pakistan, facing strict visa rules. The yellow list, with 22 countries like Angola and Zimbabwe, has 60 days to meet U.S. security concerns or risk restrictions.
Despite many African nations being affected, Nigeria, South Africa, Algeria, and Egypt are not on the list. This is a relief for Nigerians, given past U.S. travel bans.
Three Caribbean nations—Dominica, St. Kitts and Nevis, and St. Lucia—are on the yellow list due to concerns over selling citizenship to foreigners. In 2023, the EU reported that these countries issued thousands of passports to people from Iran, Nigeria, Russia, and China.
A U.S. official stated the ban is still under review and could change, but for now, Nigerians remain unaffected.
