FG Hands Over $3bn Port Harcourt-Aba Railway Project to NRC

The Federal Government has officially handed over the 62-kilometer Port Harcourt-Aba railway project, valued at $3.02 billion, to the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC). This milestone is part of the broader Port Harcourt-Maiduguri Eastern Narrow Gauge railway initiative, originally spearheaded by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

    • Rehabilitation and reconstruction of 62.8 km of railway subgrade.
    • Laying of mainline rail and sliding lines totaling 68.49 km.
    • Reconstruction of 27 turnouts across major stations, including Port Harcourt, Elelenwo, Obuzor, Umugo, and Aba.
  • Economic Impact: The railway significantly enhances passenger movement between Rivers and Abia States, fostering regional economic growth.
  • Next Phase: Focus shifts to the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri phase. Technical specifications and maintenance manuals for the completed section have already been submitted.
