Former US President Donald Trump Shot But Escapes Assassination Attempt
On Monday, September 30, 2024, popular social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, aka VeryDarkMan, and his lawyer Deji Adeyanju, arrived at the National Assembly for a joint committee probe. This investigation concerns allegations of corruption involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).
The controversy started when Bobrisky, convicted in April for naira abuse, accused the EFCC and NCS of demanding bribes to allow him to serve his sentence in a VIP section of the Kirikiri Medium Custodial Centre. These claims were brought to light via a voice note shared by VeryDarkMan, further intensifying the scandal.
The House of Representatives had earlier resolved to probe the bribery allegations following a motion moved by Patrick Umoh, a representative from Akwa Ibom State. Umoh expressed concern over these damaging allegations, which could tarnish the image of Nigeria’s law enforcement institutions.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas referred the matter to the Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions for further investigation. As the probe unfolds, the public eagerly awaits the findings.
The case highlights the persistent issue of corruption within Nigeria’s correctional and law enforcement systems.
