Olympics: Nigerian Boxer Cynthia Ogunsemilore Suspended for Doping

Nigerian lightweight boxer Cynthia Ogunsemilore has been from the Olympics suspended after testing positive for a banned substance. This news comes just before her first fight at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The International Testing Agency (ITA) announced that Ogunsemilore, who won a bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and is an African Games champion, tested positive for furosemide. Furosemide is a diuretic listed on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s prohibited substances list. The positive test came from an out-of-competition sample collected on Thursday.

As a result of this suspension, Ogunsemilore cannot compete, train, coach, or participate in any activities related to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
