Pope Francis has called upon Catholics worldwide to pray for him as he continues receiving treatment for double pneumonia at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital. The 88-year-old pontiff was unable to deliver the traditional Angelus prayer in person for the second consecutive Sunday.
In a heartfelt message written over the past few days, Pope Francis expressed gratitude for the support he has received. “In recent days, I have received many messages of affection, and I have been particularly struck by the letters and drawings from children,” he said. “Thank you for this closeness and for the prayers of comfort I have received from all over the world! I entrust you all to the intercession of Mary and ask you to pray for me.”

The Vatican has confirmed that the Pope’s condition remains critical. He was admitted to the hospital on February 14 after experiencing breathing difficulties. Due to a history of lung infections and pleurisy as a young man, he remains vulnerable to respiratory illnesses. Doctors have been closely monitoring his condition, with reports stating he has required blood transfusions for low platelet counts and a “high flow” of oxygen to support his breathing.
