ASUU President Raises Concern Over Increase in First-Class Graduates from Private Universities

The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, has shown concern about the growing number of first class graduates being awarded by private universities in Nigeria. He described the trend as troubling and called for proper regulation to maintain academic standards.

Professor Osodeke shared his thoughts during an event at Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Delta State. He warned that public universities might feel pressured to follow the same trend, which could lead to a decline in academic integrity.

He also highlighted the poor quality of education at the primary and secondary school levels, which he said was responsible for producing students with high grades but limited knowledge. Osodeke emphasized the need to address these foundational issues to improve the overall quality of education in the country.
